Roofs of the past & present

Roofs don't get enough credit. They sit up there all day protecting us from rain, snow, hail, heavy winds, and the occasional walnut falling from a tall tree.

We've come a long way from the Greek Revival architectural styles of the early 1800's with their gabled roofs held up by heavy pillars, or the beautiful Queen Anne style with the distinct turrets and towers (My favorite).

When this company first began, back in 1960, simple ranch style homes with gabled roofs were very popular. Through the 80's, people wanted a more regal, impressive look. And the "McMansion" was born, with many many chimneys and palladian windows over a large main entrance.

With the 90's came Pop-Tops. This refers to adding a second story to an existing house, or half a story for some who just need some extra space for a growing family in a home they already love. This usually requires a full roof replacement, which sounds like a job for Double RA Construction!

As we move into the future, all kinds of new styles are becoming available. From hemp roofing, solar shingles, flat roofs with gardens built on top. What do you think the roofs of the future will look like?
