Our office received a request from a prospective customer to offer a solution for our worn-down deck, which has been worn down by years of usage and New England weather. The homeowner of this 2,300-square-foot single-family home, tucked away in the marvelous section of Westchester County, searched around for a trusted exterior contractor to build a new, modern decking system.
Previously, the weathered decking was made of traditional wood, like cedar or redwood, which was once the most popular and best option for property owners. As the years went on, decking started being available in other materials, such as PVC (also known as vinyl), composite, or pressure-treated wood. Double R A Construction made the trip to the home, inspected the current deck's condition.
When assessing the sub-structure, make sure you examine the joists & beams, ledger board, look for sagging or unevenness, and check for proper footings & supports. Every one of these steps is vital to ensuring the sub-structure is strong enough to pass all safety requirements and allow us to replace the top section of the deck without needing to repair or replace any parts of the sub-structure.
Once we were able to provide the homeowner with the final inspection, we made our recommendations. They decided to have a composite decking installed to provide durability, with a long-lasting deck material that doesn't require the same maintenance as pressure-treated wood. Double R A Construction completed the deck & railing replacement in the timeframe we discussed, while providing the property owner a new, modernized decking system.
