Double R A Construction replaced this homeowners existing deck with brand new composite decking & railing system. Now they are ready for summer.

Double R A Construction was contacted by a prospective homeowner seeking a solution for a severely weathered deck on their 2,300-square-foot single-family home, nestled in a scenic area of Westchester County. After years of exposure to the elements and regular use, the deck had deteriorated and required a modern, durable replacement.

The existing deck was originally built using traditional wood materials, such as cedar or redwood, once the go-to choice for outdoor structures. However, with advancements in decking materials over the years, homeowners now have access to more durable and low-maintenance options, including PVC (vinyl), composite, and pressure-treated wood.

Our team conducted a thorough on-site evaluation of the existing structure. This included inspecting the joists, beams, ledger board, footings, and overall alignment. We looked for signs of sagging, instability, or any structural weaknesses. These steps are essential to ensure the substructure can safely support a new decking surface without requiring extensive structural repairs.

Following our assessment, we provided the homeowner with our findings and presented several material options. Based on their preferences and long-term goals, they selected pressure-treated decking, a reliable and cost-effective material known for its durability and resistance to rot and insects.

This home is nearly 70 years old and spans around 2,600 square feet, tucked away in a lovely corner of Rye Brook, NY. It was a major undertaking, but also incredibly rewarding. Here’s what we did:

• We replaced the entire roof using CertainTeed Landmark in the Pewterwood color, giving the home a fresh, durable cap.

• We fully re‑sided the house with CertainTeed Cedar Impressions in Charcoal Gray, a vinyl siding that delivers the charm of wood without the upkeep. (As we stress on our site, vinyl siding provides style and durability, while eliminating the need for scraping, staining, or painting over time.)

• To anchor the look, we added Versetta Ledgestone in Sterling color as stonework along the base of the home. • We finished it off with a brand new Therma-Tru front door, giving the main entry a bold, welcoming focal point.

The result is a wholly new façade that blends timeless character with modern performance.
